Sample notebook TOC

One of the first steps in setting up your lab/field notebook will be to create pages for your table of contents (or “TOC,” for short). Please plan on saving the first four pages (2 full pieces of paper) of your notebook for your TOC. Do not assign page numbers these first two full pages. In other words, your page numbering will begin on front side of (full) page three with the number “1” placed in the top right-hand corner.

You will be required to keep your table of contents current, and Dr. Merritt will do both announced and unannounced TOC ‘checks’ throughout the school year.

FORMATTING

You can find a generic, downloadable TOC template (PDF version) for pasting into your lab/field notebook HERE.

  • Be sure to select the correct paper size before printing: A4 paper in Europe or 8-1/2″ x 11″ in the US.

UPDATED TOC

You can find examples of our most up-to-date table of contents (by grade level) here:

  • Grade 6 (Dr. Merritt does not each any Grade 6 science classes in 2016-17)
  • Grade 7
  • Grade 8 (Dr. Merritt does not each any Grade 8 science classes in 2016-17)

TOC ‘CHECKS’

You can access the rubric that Dr. M uses to periodically evaluate your table of contents HERE (coming soon).
