Lesson 1 (60 minutes) - Mon, Oct 6

Housekeeping: In a final step to prepare for the Unit 6.1 – Classification test, students worked on the following…

1. Identifying the scientific names of four different organisms (a plant, a bacterium, a mushroom, and an archaean) by using a specially prepared Dichotomous Key prepared by the Amoeba Sisters.

2. After identifying the scientific names of four different organisms, students then had to modify the existing Dichotomous Key to accommodate a fifth organism, a cat (Felis catus).

Homework: Students should be preparing for the Unit 6.1 – Classification test by using the Unit 6.1 Study Guide and other materials suggested/provided by Dr. M.

Housekeeping: We started a new unit today! Unit 6.2 (Cells) is our next topic. This means we will also have a new Driving Question (How do the microscopic structures and functions of a cell explain what it means for something to be alive?), which will be ‘officially’ displayed on next week’s “This Week in Science!” page. Parents who attended this science lesson saw us do…
