THIS WEEK IN SCIENCE!

SS – G7 Week 12

Lesson 1 - Monday, Apr 27

Today in science: At the start of today’s lesson, Dr. M reminded students of  the final due dates for the three, end-of-unit Plant projects…

  1. Sketchnotes project – Pollination (Due Wednesday, 29 Apr)
  2. Sketchnotes project – Fertilization (Due Wednesday, 29 Apr)
  3. Plant Life Cycle project – including our most recent “Day 42/43” entry (Due Friday, 1 May)

Places to submit all three projects have been created in the Google Science Classroom.

We then began our ‘official’ start to our new unit (Unit 7.5 – Human Life Cycle), by mapping the life cycle of a human and a California Redwood tree on a piece of prepared A3 paper. For each organism, we divided their life into stages such as “infancy” (or “gemination”) and “adolescence” (or “flowering”).

Homework: Students should be working on the three assignments listed above.

Lesson 2 - Tue, Apr 28 (B) & Wed, Apr 29 (H)

Today in science: We continued mapping the life cycle of a human on our prepared A3 paper by attaching another paper showing the growth and development of a human fetus from Weeks 04 to 40. We called this diagram, “Fetal Development.” For every 4-week span, we listed 1) measurements (in cm/mm) of the size of a typical fetus, 2) a comparison of the fetus to a familiar seed, fruit, or vegetable, and 3) developmental milestones unique to each stage.

Homework: Students should be working on the three assignments listed in Lesson 1.

Lesson 3 - Wed, Apr 29 (B) & Thu, Apr 30 (H)

Today in science: We continued mapping the life cycle of a human on our prepared A3 paper by attaching yet another(!) paper showing fertilization. We called this diagram, “Fertilization Process.” After taking a look back at some famous images of real fetuses matching the illustrations on our Fetal Development diagram, we then began annotating this diagram with information such as 1) time (days), 2) names of the main structures constituting the female reproductive system and their primary functions, and 3) important and/or memorable information about each stage of the fertilization process.

Homework: Students should be working on finalizing their 42- or 43-Day Plant Unit Life Cycle project, which is due on Friday.

Lesson 4 - Thu, Apr 30 (B) & Fri, May 1 (H)

Today in science: Text…

Homework: As per the TASIS MS school homework policy, there is no science homework due on Monday.
