THIS WEEK IN SCIENCE!

FS – G6 Week 14

Lesson 1 - Monday, Nov 24

Housekeeping: After looking back at some cell photos of various tissues, students spent another lesson using their microscope skills to find, focus, and draw…

1. Liver tissue

2. Stomach tissue

3. Small intestine tissue

4. Large intestine tissue

Today is the final part of INV#3 – Animal Cells, in which students are ‘hunting’ for animal cells in a variety of pre-prepared, stained microscope slides.

Homework: There is no science homework tonight.

Lesson 2 - Tuesday, Nov 25

Housekeeping: We started the lesson by making a number of “What we learned…” statements when doing INV#3. Most of these statements related to some key science words: cells, tissues, organs, and organisms. Students were then asked to complete two different Exam.net formative assessment assignments about 1) cells and cell structures, and 2) cell size and shape.

Homework: There is no science homework tonight.

Lesson 3 - Wed, Nov 26 (C, D) & Thu, Nov 27 (E)

Housekeeping: After double-checking our notes to make sure we had recorded information about 1) our main conclusions from INV#3 – Animal Cells, 2) the levels or organization in whole organisms (e.g., organs -> tissues -> cells), and, in the case of C period, 3) a deep dive into particle physics, including the nature and structure of atoms!

Homework: As per the TASIS MS school homework policy, there is no weekend science homework (due on Monday).

Lesson 4 - Fri, Nov 28 (No School - Thanksgiving Holiday)

Announcements...

The DRIVING QUESTION of our current unit is: How do the microscopic structures and functions of a cell explain what it means for something to be alive?

C & D period homework collection days: Wednesday & Friday.

E period homework collection days: Tuesday & Thursday.

Including this week, there are 6 weeks of school to complete before the end of the Fall Semester.
