HELP CENTER

When you need help doing all things science, we've got you covered.

Over the years, Dr. Merritt has created, collected, and curated any number of useful resources for his science students. Help Center is his version of Harry Potter’s Room of Requirement: a space–albeit a digital one–where students can come find sought-after items on those occasions they need them most. Help Center is an eclectic mix of learning resources and, although finding what you’re looking for can sometimes be a little challenging, once you learn your way around there’s a good chance you’ll become a frequent visitor.

Admission is free. Stay a while. Have a look around. Be patient. Follow the links. Loiter. Return in your free time.

Best of all, there’s no need to clean up when you leave.

Glossary(s)

Talking science is hard, but the SCIENCEsEDiment Glossaries can help students learn to use the key words, root words, numbers, and various symbols scientists tend to use when communicating with each other. Because so much science is based on observations made with the human senses, a carefully curated collection of Sensory Glossaries are in development (and coming soon!) to help develop young scientists develop a greater range of sight-, touch-, taste-, sound-, and smell-specific language.

Grades & Grading

What’s in a letter? What’s in a number? The TASIS Middle School issues two different types of grades: one for Academic performance and one for Effort. On each of the grade-level Headquarters pages, your teacher has created a special section to help you better understand the different types of science grades your are issued in his class.

How To...

When you want to learn how to do something but you don’t know how to do it, what do you do? Your teacher knows your likely answer: Google it. Open YouTube. Head to TikTok. Those are all useful how-to options, of course, and similar to these options SCIENCEsEDiment’s How To section points users towards online resources for learning how to do any number of ‘science-y’ things. In this section, you will find links to tutorials–but also some original content–related to any number of important scientific skills such as calculating, collecting, describing, dissecting, graphing, hacking, identifying, measuring, tabulating, and using equipment…among others.

The Toolbox

Need a special ruler? Looking for a scientific notebook? Require a trustworthy pen in all weather conditions? Want to purchase your own dissection kit? SCIENCEsEDiment’s Toolbox might have exactly what you’re searching for. In it, the author has assembled a highly curated collection of high-quality (we don’t recommend garbage!) purchasable items for the most curious, passionate, and discerning science students and teachers.

The Period Table of (the) Elements is one of the true wonders of science. In SCIENCEsEDiment’s Periodicity section, you will find a smorgasbord of resources related to it. Not only are there numerous printable versions of the table (which you can also access in the Print Library section), but there are also links to interactive versions of it as well as links to websites devoted to its past, present, and future.

Print Library

Is theres something you need to print to support your learning? Well, SCIENCEsEDiment’s Print Library should have it. Whether it’s graphing paper, lined paper, a temporary ruler, note-taking templates, grading rubrics, etc., the Print Library should have the document you’re looking for. If it doesn’t, message the author and make a request to have something printable added.

Writing Workshop

Much of the day-to-day work of many research scientists involves countless hours of writing. SCIENCEsEDiment’s Writing Workshop, which is a sort of website within a website, aims to demystify science writing and help you learn how to produce common school-based scientific texts–such as lab reports and research articles–but with greater authenticity and sophistication than many school science teachers expect.
