Lesson 1 - Monday, Apr 28
Today in science: Power Plant Packet (PPP) Chapters 1 & 2…
Homework: If they weren’t able to do so during Monday’s science lesson, prior to the start of their next science lesson B, C, & H period students must complete Chapters 1 & 2 of their PPP.
Lesson 2 - Tue, Apr 29 (B, C) & Wed, Apr 30 (H)
Today in science: After reviewing the key ideas in Chapters 1 & 2 of the Power Plant Packet (PPP), students completed a 1-question quiz on both Chapter 1 & Chapter 2. After the quiz, we held a class discussion in which we added key ideas/facts learned in Chapters 1-2 to our Class Consensus Model (v3.0).
In the remaining class time, students were given time to begin working on Chapter 3.
Homework: B, C, & H period students should begin working on Chapter 3 of their PPP.
Lesson 3 - Wed, Apr 30 (B, C) & Thu, May 1 (H - 40 min)
Today in science: B & C period students had time in class–about 30 minutes–to begin working on Chapter 3 of their Power Plant Packet (PPP). About halfway through the lesson, however, Dr. M asked students to perform INV #10 to test a geranium leaf for the presence of a carbohydrate called “starch,” which is basically a long chain of sugar molecules. The presence–or absence–of this molecule in the leaves of plants could provide evidence of something students learned while reading Chapter 3, that is, that plants produce their own food which takes the form of a simple sugar called “glucose.”
Because today’s H period science lesson was shortened to 40 minutes due to the MS Musical rehearsal, students in this class did not have much time to work on Chapter 3 during class because INV #10 required 30 minutes to complete.
Homework: B, C, & H period students should continue working on Chapter 3 of their PPP. It will be due at the end of Lesson 4.
Lesson 4 - Thu, May 1 (B - 40 min) & Fri, May 2 (C, H)
Today in science: Any students wanting to take the 1-question, Chapter 3 quiz were given the opportunity to do so. Students were then given time to complete–and submit–Chapter 3 of their PPP. Students able to complete and submit Chapter 3 with time remaining in the lesson were asked to begin working on Chapters 4 & 5.
In H period, students who missed Lesson 3 due to the MS Musical performance were given the opportunity to see a shortened version of INV #10 – Geranium Leaf.
Homework: The 1-question, Chapter 3 PPP quiz originally scheduled for today has been rescheduled for Monday.
