THIS WEEK IN SCIENCE!

SS – G7 Week 14

Lesson 1 - Monday, May 6 (Day 21)

Focus Question: What is the life cycle of a flowering plant?

What We Did…

After clarifying a few issues about this Friday’s Flower Quiz, Dr. M had students continue the Pollination notes started–but not finished–during one of last week’s lessons.

Homework: Students should use their time out of science class this week to 1) Be sure the Word Wall in their science notebook is up to date, and 2) Prepare for Friday’s Flower Quiz.

Lesson 2 - Tuesday, May 7 (Day 22)

Focus Question: What is the life cycle of a flowering plant?

What We Did…

Students had time to measure and record the height of their plants, take more photos and write more captions for their photo journal/log, continue updating their Word Wall with definitions from the SCIENCEsEDiment Glossary, and continue reviewing for this Friday’s Flower Quiz.

Homework: Students should use their time out of science class this week to 1) Be sure the Word Wall in their science notebook is up to date, and 2) Prepare for Friday’s Flower Quiz.

Lesson 3 - Wednesday, May 8 (Day 23)

Focus Question: What is the life cycle of a flowering plant?

What We Did…

We performed a flower dissection of a tulip, which has much larger flower parts that our B. rapa mustard plants. In this investigation we created Noticings and Wonderings, which Dr. M recorded in the G7 Notes Portal while students dissected and photographed their specimens, related to the following plant and flower parts: true leaves, stem, petals (there were no sepals), stamens, and pistil. This dissection is meant to help students prepare for Friday’s Flower Quiz.

Homework: Students should use their time out of science class this week to 1) Be sure the Word Wall in their science notebook is up to date, and 2) Prepare for Friday’s Flower Quiz.

Lesson 4 - Friday, May 10 (Day 25)

Focus Question: What is the life cycle of a flowering plant?

What We Did…

After completing the Flower Quiz, students were asked to perform a pistil dissection of a green bean. Rather than drawing/sketching during the dissection, students were asked to photograph the different stages of their dissection and then upload and format their photos in a Google Document assigned to them in the Google Science Classroom.

Homework: There is no weekend science homework.
