The Island President - a 2012 documentary about global climate change and politics
The Island President – a 2012 documentary about the politics and science of global climate change

According to one online dictionary, documentary films are “nonfictional motion pictures intended to document some aspect of reality, primarily for the purposes of instruction or maintaining a historical record.” Fair enough. This definition will work for us.

Compared to major motion picture makers, however, many documentary film makers often place science and technology issues as the main focus of their films. So much so, that its rather impractical to try and list all of the insightful and well made documentary films on this webpage. Nevertheless, I’ve taken the liberty of listing some of the more recent and/or well-known documentary films dealing with issues related to science and technology. When possible, I’ve included links to Internet sites at which you can–legally and relatively easily–watch trailers and/or clips from the films, as well as find out more about them.

You might also consider visiting an Internet site that houses free and legal copies of a number of popular documentary films. The Top Documentary Films website has lots of documentary films about science and other science-related topics available for streaming.
