Lesson 1 - Monday, May 26
Today in science: Using a styrofoam sphere (placed on a wooden stick) and a bright light source (e.g., plant lights, desk lamps), students were asked to create two models explaining their initial ideas as to 1) how day/night occurs on Earth, and 2) how the four seasons–Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring–occur on Earth.
Homework: Students have been asked to begin preparing for an end-of-unit Earth & Atmosphere quiz to take place later this week. To begin preparing, students have been asked to make productive use of the following BBC KS3 Bitesize revision websites: Composition of the Atmosphere, Structure of the Earth, Rock Types, and The Rock Cycle.
Lesson 2 - Tue, May 27 (B, C) & Wed, May 28 (H)
Today in science: After discussing and finalizing our Initial class model for Day/Night, students continued working on their Seasons model before then sharing it with their classmates. From this sharing, we began putting our ideas together to finalize our Initial class model for Seasons. During this work, we also began considering specific aspects of our Seasons model such as both the Sun and the Earth’s movement(s) and positioning. We also briefly spent time considering the Earth’s positioning within our Solar System.
