Description has always been an important facet of scientific work. In Dr. M’s science classes, we will think of good scientific description as consisting of no less than two closely related activities: observing and recording. In other words, to learn how to produce high-quality scientific descriptions is to learn how to become a 1) keen observer of both objects and events and, 2) skilled recorder of your observations. By following the links below, you will find tips, advice, and exercises aimed at helping you learn how to improve both your observation and recording skills.

OBSERVE (verb)- the action or process of observing something or someone carefully or in order to gain information.

RECORD (verb) – the action or process of constituting a piece of evidence about the past, especially an account of an act or occurrence kept in writing or some other permanent form.
